Recent data shows the majority of consumers are using CBD for pain, anxiety or sleep related issues.

The UK CBD market is primarily driven by three types of shoppers, according to a new report from e-commerce platform, Alphagreen.

The majority of CBD consumers suffer from chronic pain, anxiety or sleep issues, says the marketplace and technology provider, which reviews customers throughout their shopper journey.

The latest research data has found that the majority of consumers 35 percent are using CBD for pain, 28 percent for anxiety and 25 percent for sleep, while 12 percent use CBD for general wellness purposes.

Similar statistics emerged from a 2020 Alphagreen survey on 5,000 respondents, the largest CBD study in the UK to date.

In it, 15 percent (7.8 million adults) of the UK population said they had bought CBD.

If the survey is to be believed, 1.65 million people are using CBD for pain, while 2.17 million use it to help with sleep.

According to the Alphagreen, an estimated 28 million UK adults suffer from some type of chronic pain and nearly 16 million UK adults suffer from poor sleep, with less than a quarter (23 percent) managing to get five hours or more sleep each night.

Early clinical trials have shown that CBD can help with sleep, anxiety and pain.

A 2020 New Zealand study, conducted in general practice amongst 397 people prescribed CBD oil, found that taking CBD was associated with improvements in better sleep, improvements in pain (where they had pain) and improvements in overall quality of health.

Another 2020 study showed that application of CBD oil (in the form of a cream) to the site of the pain has been shown to help people with back pain.

The World Health Organisation has recognised that CBD may have the potential to help health issues sleep issues like insomnia as well as anxiety which can prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep.
