Antonia Menzel to Discuss Cannabis Prescribing Changes at Frankfurt Symposium

The pharmaceutical industry representative will examine treatment costs and what policy changes mean for patients.

How changes to cannabis prescribing and insurance funding affect patients will be examined by a German pharmaceutical industry representative at the Cannabis Health Symposium in Frankfurt next week.

Antonia Menzel, chair of the Federal Association of Pharmaceutical Cannabinoid Companies (BPC), will lead Prescribing Under Pressure: What Germany’s Cannabis Policy Shifts Mean in Practice.

“Germany has the largest medicinal cannabis market in Europe, but scale on its own tells us very little,” she said ahead of the event.

Menzel will examine which patients face new costs, what alternative treatments are available and how proposed restrictions on online prescribing could affect care.

She described closing the gap between privately paid and insurance-funded treatment as “a shared task for clinicians, industry, policy and statutory health insurance alike”.

Menzel also leads public affairs and corporate communications at Sanity Group and previously worked on European health policy at the Federation of German Industries.

The one-day symposium takes place at Mainhaus, Frankfurt, on 4 November.
