Endometriosis Specialist to Speak at Frankfurt Cannabis Symposium

Professor Sylvia Mechsner will examine the evidence for medical cannabis in women’s health on 4 November.

What patient experiences can tell us about cannabis and endometriosis pain will be examined at the Cannabis Health Symposium in Frankfurt next month.

The one-day event will bring together healthcare professionals, researchers and industry representatives to discuss medical cannabis evidence, prescribing and patient experiences.

Professor Sylvia Mechsner, who has led the specialist endometriosis centre at Berlin’s Charité university hospital since 2014, will join Dr Shabnam Sarshar for Endometriosis and Beyond: Medical Cannabis in Women’s Health.

The session will focus on the chronic inflammatory condition, which affects an estimated two million women in Germany.

It will examine findings from a survey of more than 900 German-speaking patients with endometriosis, led by the Endometriosis Research Centre at Charité, as Cannabis Health recently reported.

Sarshar and Mechsner will also explore current understanding of the endocannabinoid system in endometriosis-related pain and where cannabinoid medicines might fit within a wider approach to treatment.

Mechsner has also led Charité’s endometriosis research laboratory since 2005, studying the condition and the mechanisms behind its pain.

The symposium takes place at Mainhaus, Frankfurt, on 4 November.
